Get off to the best start

For many, the first full-time job feels like a big change. Working life is uncharted territory and the first period of time is often characterised by many firsts and a steep learning curve. It could be the first salary negotiation, the first performance review interview or the first time you have to deliver to a manager who has expectations of you and your professionalism.
It may also be that you think it is unclear what is required of you. Or that you find your work tasks uninspiring, or that your work does not live up to the expectations you had when you started.
The peer group is a unique opportunity to grow with like-minded people. Through sparring and the exchange of experiences, you will gain valuable insights and inspiration on how to overcome the barriers or challenges you may face as a newcomer to the labour market. In addition, you will expand your network and connect with other young IDA members who can recognise the considerations and challenges you are facing.

What is a peer group?

As a member of the peer group, you’ll be part of a confidential forum of people who are not personally invested in your work life. You will follow each other’s development and, over time, be able to spar based on a good knowledge and understanding of each other’s situations.

The members of the group decide which topics, themes and cases will be discussed during the meetings. The group is facilitated, which means that two facilitators set the framework for the group to thoroughly cover the desired topic. The facilitators also structure the meetings so that there is a common thread and that all participants leave the meeting with new perspectives and insights that are relevant to their current situation.

The group’s facilitators are volunteer IDA members who are being trained in network facilitation. Through IDA’s facilitator training programme, the facilitators have gained a lot of theoretical and practical knowledge. Between each peer group meeting, they are supervised by IDA’s professional facilitator and receive ongoing training in facilitation to ensure that they are equipped to create the best possible framework for the members’ benefits in the peer group.
