Why get a mentor?

As a student, a mentor can be an invaluable support, helping you to gain clarity about your ambitions, find direction in your professional development, and achieve greater well-being in your everyday life.

The mentor can also help you create a study plan that aligns with your goals, and help you stay organized and focused. They support you in developing skills and habits that contribute to your overall growth, such as time management, life skills, and effective communication.

Effective communication, clarity, and commitment are the foundation of a successful mentoring relationship. Transparent communication ensures that both mentor and mentee have a shared understanding of goals and expectations. Clarity helps set and achieve goals, while commitment from both parties creates a productive and rewarding experience

Why become a mentor?

Did you know:
If you are a master's student, you can become a mentor for a student at bachelor's or professional bachelor's level.

You can make a huge difference as a mentor. Your experiences are worth gold to a mentee who is looking for sparring on the many doubts and opportunities of their career. By telling them about the paths, shortcuts and detours you have taken during your studies and career choices, you help your mentee turn possible doubts into clarification.

What do you gain?
New learning, insights and perspectives on your own working life and your professionalism.
Opportunity to expand your leadership and coaching skills
Improve your communication skills by communicating your own experiences in a constructive way
A network of other mentors with whom you can spar

Registration process

We have a mentoring platform that suggests matches based on your information.
It is important that you fill out your profile thoroughly so that you only get relevant matches.

For mentees: You fill out your profile with what you would like to work with. Based on your profile, you will be presented with two to three potential mentors, of which you can request one to become your mentor.

For mentors: You fill out your profile with what you can contribute to a mentoring process. As a mentor, you can only have one mentee at a time.
Remember that your profile will be read by several mentors/mentees, so avoid writing private or sensitive information. If a good match is found and a mentor accepts your request, the registration is then binding. Naturally, IDA cannot guarantee personal chemistry between mentor and mentee.

The mentor and mentee meet 4-6 times in a 6-month course. The meetings typically last 1 1/2 hours, and it is your responsibility as a mentee to prepare the agenda.

After matching

After matching, you will be invited to the Mentor Kickoff Event in Copenhagen or Aarhus along with the other matched mentees and mentors at the start of the program. It is mandatory to attend the next kickoff for new mentors and mentees. Travel allowance is provided in connection with the kickoff.

Additionally, there is a mandatory mentor masterclass meeting once a year.
